Ukraine only ahead of Belarus and Azerbaijan in freedom of speech rating

According to freedom of speech monitoring carried out by Internews Ukraine, of the six countries of the Eastern Partnership from March to June 2013, Ukraine was in fourth place.

This is a new monitoring project over two years carried out by Internews Ukraine, in cooperation with NGOs in other countries of the Eastern Partnership: Armenia; Azerbaijan; Belarus; Georgia; Moldova; and Ukraine.  Ten analysts will be working in each of the republics, chosen for their political non-affiliation; media experience of at least 5 years; and contact with the media.

During this first phase of monitoring Ukraine has already been found to be behind Armenia; Georgia and Moldova.
