One of the sanest voices in Putin’s Russia, the renowned science fiction writer Boris Strugatsky has died in St Petersburg. He was 79. Boris Strugatsky wrote a number of philosophical science fiction novels together with his brother Arkady. Boris Strugatsky wrote two more novels after his brother died in 1991. His voice was always to be held in defence of the persecuted and against other encroachments on freedom in modern Russia. He will be profoundly missed.
