Police detain four on Kyiv’s Independence Square

The Ministry of Internal Affairs Press Office informs that “four members of a left-wing political group” were detained on Maidan Nezalezhnosti [Independence Square] in Kyiv.

The police state that the demonstrators were arrested for refusing to comply with the court order of the District Administrative Court in Kyiv banning demonstrations on 14 October. The police reports says that a preliminary check is underway.

An Ukrainska Pravda correspondent reports that the police have cordoned off Maidan Nezalezhnosti and are also blocking a number of exits from the metro leading to the square. There are coaches on Horodetsky St with police officers .

The Kyiv District Administrative Court banned the right wing party VO Svoboda from holding a march in support of recognition of the fighters of UPA [the Ukrainian Resistance Army] on Khreshchatyk, Maidan Nezalezhnosti and European Square.   Svoboda have said that the march will go on regardless.
