Media union angry over Presidential team’s selective accreditation

The Kyiv Independent Media Trade Union has condemned the President’s team for policy resulting in Ukrainian journalists not being allowed into the press conference of the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia in Kharkiv, whereas almost all Russian journalists were admitted

The Kyiv Independent Media Trade Union has condemned the President’s team for policy resulting in Ukrainian journalists not being allowed into the press conference of the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia in Kharkiv, whereas almost all Russian journalists were admitted.

The media union also states that it is surprised by the decision to admit to the press conference with regional media outlets only State-owned outlets or those which are part-owned by the State. “This violates the equal rights both of citizens and of the media since the Constitution declares equal rights for all forms of property”.

The meeting of the two Presidents took place on 21 April. Most journalists observed the press conference from the press centre where they broadcast only key points, and where they couldn’t ask questions.

The Union also notes that “Telekritika” was refused accreditation for the President’s meeting with regional media journalists on Thursday.  Later on Wednesday Anna Hermann from the President’s Administration stated that the plans had changed, that all those wishing to attend would be able to, so this may include Telekritika.
